Summer has finally come. With high discomfort index due to hot and humid weather, deodorant plays very important role to those who suffer from the smell of sticky sweat. Then what would be the smart way to use deodorant that makes sticky summer tender?
Q. How does deodorant lessen the smell of sweat?
A. The smell of the sweat occurs from the place it sweats, as germ and mold increase. Deodorant consists of small amount of ACH, which controls the secretion of sweat. This component reacts with materials around the sweat gland, and creates deposits to block the pore of sweat. However, perfume, aroma, and antibacterial material inside the deodorant mostly suppress the smell of sweat rather than ACH itself.
Q. Does deodorant only control the smell, or it is also effective to emission?
A. ACH in deodorant can control the sweat but usually it is little amount. To suppress secretion of sweat it is more effective to use normal medicine such as ‘Driclo’. For better effect, it is recommended to consider Botox treatment so called “Sweat Injection”. This is the procedure that Botox controls secretion of neurotransmitter so as to constrain the secretion of sweat. It takes only five to ten minutes, and one is able to start normal daily life right after the surgery. The effect shows in two days and lasts for approximately six months with one injection.
Q. If deodorant uses chemical components to suppress sweat secretion, doesn’t it irritate skin?
A. Deodorant consists of antibacterial material to get rid of germs in the product, and this can lead to diverse skin trouble by applying it on the tender skin of armpit. Particularly, if you keep applying it constantly where the skin got sensitive after shaving and waxing, skin can get itchy or sting and it can even become dermatitis. If you keep applying deodorant even after getting dermatitis, the area can turn brown.
Q. What would be the precaution for using deodorant?
A. It is better not to use deodorant for certain period of time after shaving or laser treatment. The skin is more sensitive than usual during these cases, so deodorant can irritate the skin and cause swells. Deodorant can also irritate parts around the eyes or injured areas, so it is recommended to avoid application around these areas.
Q. Does skin always have to be clean before putting on deodorant?
A. Try not to use deodorant when you are sweating, but to use it after weeping off the sweat with water or tissue. Using deodorant when sweating can make even worse smell as sweat and deodorant get mixed.
Q. Is it okay if the person does not thoroughly clean off deodorant?
A. Deodorant was made so it does not wipe off by water and sweat, so it is important to clean it thoroughly after using. Deodorant, one of the essential products for summer, can temporarily control smell and sweat, but it cannot be a fundamental solution. It is recommended to speak with dermatology doctor to treat EXCESSIVE SWEATING of armpit and osmidrosis. Moreover, try to take a shower frequently as to keep the body clean, and not to wear tight clothes but the ones that air could go in and out.
